Prepare the tablet
Use a tablet, spare iPad or Android device with a constant power supply.

Connect the tablet to Wi-Fi so it can stay up to date.

Open a web browser and go to franksboard.com/display.

Create the pairing code
In Frank's Board Settings, give the display a familiar name and generate its one-time code.

Enter the pairing code
Enter the one-time code on the display. It then connects to the correct Board and loads automatically.

Keep the screen awake
Keep the tablet plugged in and change its settings so the screen does not sleep or lock.

Check the confirmation
The display confirms the connection and then opens the Board.

Only show what is useful now
The Board is not a family calendar. Add what the person needs to know, not everything the family knows.

Use clear, simple language
Use one thought at a time. Short, direct sentences are easier to understand.

Do not ask questions
Questions can be confusing or hard to answer. The Board is for information and reassurance, not interrogation.

Be positive and definite
Say what will happen clearly. Avoid uncertain wording when you can.

You do not have to fill them. Shorter is often better, and a simple message can mean the most.

Advance information helps some people and unsettles others. Choose whether events appear the day before.

Remove or replace messages and plans when they are no longer useful. Out-of-date information can cause confusion.

The limited space is deliberate. It should be easy to understand at a glance, not a noticeboard.

Frank’s Board works on modern iPads, Android tablets, laptops and desktop computers.

Older tablets
Some older tablets may also work.
In particular, we are working to preserve compatibility with iPads running iPadOS 15.
Older Android tablets running Android 8 or 9 may work if they have a sufficiently recent browser installed.
Because older devices vary considerably, we cannot guarantee compatibility with every older tablet.
Very old iPads
Devices limited to iOS 12 are not supported.
Installing Chrome on an older iPad does not make it equivalent to Chrome on an Android tablet or computer because browsers on iPad use Apple’s underlying browser technology.
Before buying a tablet
If you are buying a tablet specifically for Frank’s Board, we recommend choosing:
an iPad capable of running iPadOS 16.4 or later, or
an Android tablet running Android 10 or later with an up-to-date version of Chrome.
You do not need an expensive or high-performance tablet to use Frank’s Board.
If you already own an older tablet, try it before replacing it. Frank’s Board may still work perfectly well.
